Discover a new dimension to expand your mind

Vipassana:
10-day silent retreat

After many years dabbling with meditation, I decided to learn it properly by jumping into the deep end and enrolled myself on a ten-day silent meditation retreat. To sit down on the floor for ten hours a day, for ten consecutive days was a gruelling experience, but for my surprise, I learnt how to really focus my mind. As a result, I had the privilege of understanding the world from a new level of consciousness and experienced a state of ecstasy I didn't know existed.

If you’re up for the challenge, they have centers all over the world. The retreat is free of charge, and you can only give a donation if you endure the ten days. Read more at this Wikipedia or click the link below to book your place.

Guided Meditation:
10-Minute practice

The Best Two Apps

I've tried many Apps and I recommend two of them to get you started.
The first one is called "Waking Up". Join Sam Harris—neuroscientist, philosopher, and New York Times best-selling author—as he explores the practice of meditation and examines the theory behind it.

The second is called Head Space and was impressed with it's simplicity and results. It's very simple and effective way to relax and develop your focus, and more than 5 million people have already tried it.

Buddhist Meditation

This is a technique that can be practiced by people that follow any religion. It will not indoctrinate you, but show you how to focus and connect with your own God, if you have one. This is easier to find on Google, and it's usually inexpensive. Try a few near you and look for a teacher that really connects with you. You will find more information at this Wikipedia.

Transcendental Meditation

This line of meditation makes you get focused by repeating a Mantra (sacred word) internally over and over until you get into a good level of focus. This is usually much more expensive and harder to find. You will find more information at this Wikipedia.

Active
Meditation

There is a spiritual teacher called Osho or Rajneesh that I admire because he researched most religions and found some unusual ways to meditate, and also create the famous Active Meditations. He said that in the West we are too impatient to sit still and meditate. For this reason, he created many meditations that have structured movements and really take you out of this world. One of my favourites is the Sufi Whirling Dervishes Meditation, and you can watch a fantastic video of people practicing this meditation by spinning on the spot for hours on end. And yes, I was wearing the long dress you see in the video to practice it. This is an out of this world experience.

You can find out more about this controversial teacher at this Wikipedia or visit the website below for resources available and to know about his Ashram in India. I've spent some time at the Ashram, and I really recommend it.

Meditate using Biofeedback

You can see the effects of meditation on your brain by watching a biofeedback software mapping your brainwaves in real-time. It's really fantastic to understand the science about it and also see the brainwaves changing as you practice meditation. I was surprised to see how fast I could change my state of mind. They have more than 5 million customers, and you can take a look at their system by clicking the link below.

Holosync Meditation Technology

If you are into learning the science behind meditation I recommend the Holosync Meditation Technology. You can read the free book about their advanced technology before you embark on the experience. I'm also curious about why it works, and this book can be very enlightening. For more information follow the link below.
